Widespread use of English threatens the disappearance of the Finno-Ugric languages. Such views were expressed at the plenary meeting of the international conference “The functioning of the Finno-Ugric languages in modern conditions”, which opened Nov. 17 in Syktyvkar. The conference was attended by representatives of Finland, Hungary, Estonia and various regions of Russia.

  The issues of language policy in Russia, Finland, Estonia and Hungary became the main theme of the plenary session.
