Hungarian cultural festival in five Russian cities

А Нungarian cultural festival will be held in five Russian cities between March 30 and June 30, the state secretary for cultural and science diplomacy said. About it website Hungarian Register reports.

István Íjgyártó told a press conference that the festival aims to present Hungary’s cultural diversity and the work of cultural institutions. Another important consideration has been to hold events not only in Moscow and Saint Petersburg but also in other cities where Hungarian presence has increased.

The series of events, to be held in the cities of Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Saint Petersburg and Kazan, will cover a colourful array of programmes from the applied and fine arts through classical and popular music and folk culture to gastronomy.

At the press conference, Judit Hammerstein, head of the Balassi Institute aimed at the promotion of Hungarian culture abroad, said that the festival is to take place on the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Hungarian cultural institute in the Russian capital. She said that the festival’s highlights will include an exhibition of the works of Hungarian painter Mihály Munkácsy in Moscow, a Victor Vasarely exhibition which is to take place in Saint Petersburg and Yekaterinburg, and exhibitions of photographs by the world-famous Hungarian artist Robert Capa and Central-East European synagogues, also to be held in the Russian capital.

The festival to be held in  The Hungarian festival featuring 17 major and several smaller events has been organised by the foreign ministry and the Balassi Institute from 200 million forints (EUR 670,000).
